In the context of the Interregional Cooperation Plan "Marine Environment, Coastal Threats and Fisheries" an interactive event was organized on 17/11/2023 at the Rodopi Lighthouse, with the aim of raising awareness among the local population about the protection of the seas through their active participation in recreational activities .
The event included, among others, the revival of fishermen's customs, shadow theater and the telling of sea myths and stories.
Yannis Voultsidis, with the shadow theater and the stories of the Karagiozi fisherman, conveyed in a traditional and humorous way the eternal need of man to be near the sea, to live and prosper from it, while at the same time he told the young and old viewers stories from the fishermen of the area when they sometimes fought with the sea and sometimes organized traditional feasts and celebrations in their huts. The event was dressed up with background music and traditional songs about the sea.
The students of Fanari Primary School, inspired by the fishing activity of their area, created paintings on the theme of fishing and the sea and shared them with the visitors of the event while they actively participated in the shadow theater taking on the role of puppeteers. On Wednesday, November 14, an art workshop on the creation of the exhibits was held at Fanario Primary School.
